An Antidote to Teacher Burnout: How Yoga and Mindfulness Can Support Resilience In and Out of the Classroom
with Samantha Williams
An Antidote to Burnout: Yoga for Teachers
Whether you have two minutes or 20 minutes to spare, this course will show you how to regroup and refocus with simple yoga and mindfulness approaches.
What can yoga and mindfulness practices do for school teachers?
- Improve self-awareness of thoughts, emotions, and causes for behaviors - Improve conflict resolution ability
- Improve empathy and compassion, for self and others
- Reduce stress, burnout, depression and anxiety
- Reduce reactivity and negativity
Teaching can be a very stressful occupation. Teachers work long hours, on their feet, and face increasing demands from mandated testing and other stressors. School teachers need to nurture themselves.
Yoga helps teachers explore their ability to control their responses to stressful situations. They often cannot control the situation itself or individual players in it, but they can remain calm, slow down their responses, make better choices, feel empowered, and take clear action.
Instructor Samantha Williams is a registered yoga teacher who has completed over 700 hours of training, and taken her yoga practice on the road from Maine to Costa Rica. An ACE certified personal trainer since 2010, she helps clients find creative ways to fit their work outs in and achieve their goals. Samantha currently offers yoga and exercise in one-on-one sessions, group classes, and workshops. As owner of Bold Coast Yoga School, Samantha now instructs Yoga teachers.

First Time Home Buyer's Class
with Heather Massow
hoMEworks homebuyer education classes provide an opportunity to learn about the home buying process in a neutral environment. Buyers who have taken home buying classes are more confident when asking questions and making decisions about homeownership and loan products. Education gives buyers the tools they need to avoid predatory lending and possible foreclosure.
Buying a home is exciting, and it can also be a bit overwhelming - there's a lot to learn! Studies show that people who complete a homebuyer education course are better prepared as buyers and more successful as homeowners. In many cases, completion of a homebuyer education program is necessary in order to be approved for a mortgage.
Heather Massow, Certified Housing Counselor and Educator, has worked with Penquis for more than nine years. Heather currently works with clients who are facing foreclosure, teaches homebuyer education classes and works one-on-one with pre-purchase clients helping them become credit-ready to purchase a home. Previously, she worked in the mortgage banking industry for about 14 years processing, originating and closing loans. Recently Heather joined the board of the Bangor chapter of Habitat for Humanity and is on the Family Selection Committee. Heather especially enjoys working with her foreclosure clients and finds the process rewarding. In her spare time, you will most likely find Heather riding her Morgan horse Magic or doing anything horse-related.
All day workshop, Saturday, October 21, 8:30am-6:30pm.
Bring lunch and snacks, if desired.
