Ready to take to the woods and go hunting this fall? Unless you can show proof of an adult hunting license held in any year starting in 1976, every hunter in Maine must attend an approved hunting education course. Taking a hunter education course is also a great idea If you would like to refresh your knowledge of safe and responsible hunting.

- Bring your voucher number from the online course to the Skills and Exam Day.
- Get ready to go hunting!
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Requirements
- You must be at least 10 years old to take this online course.
- You must be a resident of Maine to take the online course.
The Maine Firearms Hunter Safety Course is taught by trained, certified volunteer instructors according to statewide standards. The course covers the following topics: proper firearms handling (rifle and shotgun), survival/first aid, hunter responsibility, map and compass, and landowner relations.
In the online portion of the course, students complete quizzes and an exam. Upon completion, students are provided with a voucher to attend the skills and exam day. Students must complete the online course and provide voucher number to register for the Skills and Exam Day.
In the skills and exam session students demonstrate that they can safely:
- Handle a firearm
- Participate in activities
- Bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents
- Pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%.
Skills and Exam Day: Sunday, September 10, 9am--4pm for Firearms Hunter Safety skills day.
